All levels are welcome.

Yoga can be done by everyone, anytime, anywhere.

Why Yoga?

“Yoga entered my life when my husband David introduced it to me on a frigid Canadian winter morning!”

There were times when the weather was below freezing and snowy, and Letty wanted to exercise inside their home. She then practiced it regularly in the mornings during the winter days. After living in Canada, as Letty and David continued with their careers and moved from place to place every couple of years. Therefore, as many of us may have experienced, her practice was on and off for many years.

It was in Mexico where Letty first attended a formal yoga class and committed to it once a week. To her surprise, everyone was supposed to lie down and rest at the end of the yoga session. It was then her first encounter with savasana, corpse pose! She described that all the students stayed still, breathing softly, with their eyes closed. It was all new to her!

Fast forward to a few years later and Letty was committed to yoga classes twice a week – with savasana being her favorite posture to practice at the end of each class!

Savasana is a yoga postura to rest, restore, and rejuvenate.

Why Mindfulness and Savana?

“My first practices of savasana were a bit funny. I opened my eyes several times to see if everyone else was still, or if I had missed the “wake up” time or to see where the teacher/instructor was.”

Savasana intrigued and fascinated Letty ever since. Because of her biology studies and background as a scientific researcher, she has observed how this posture has a different impact on different students. Not everyone reacts to Savasana the same way. Some of them fell asleep, some left before savasana (presuming to avoid it), some couldn’t keep their eyes closed and some just embraced it very gladly – almost as if it were a reward for their hard work.

So, Letty had lots of questions:

“Why so many different reactions?”

“What is happening to our mind in this posture?”

“Does corpse pose give us something back?”

Letty started researching for answers. That is how the idea for her book “Gateway to Mindfulness” was born!

“As I was writing the book about the science of savasana, the connection between this particular asana and mindfulness materialized.”

The popular word, mindfulness, means to be aware of the present moment. Thus, mindfulness practice aims to bring awareness to our body, mind, and breathing, in the present moment. To practice mindfulness in savasana is one of the tools to get to know ourselves better because it is the awareness of our present sensations and emotions.

Teaching Experience

After successfully completing her YogaWorks teacher training in 2014 at Urban Ashram (Manila), Letty has taught private classes for individuals and groups in the Philippines, USA and Brazil.

Her classes are best described as gentle yoga flow based on Hatha Yoga with a touch of Iyengar yoga style and her own scientific cues. They are focused on alignment, breathing, and movements that prepare us for relaxation and guided mindfulness meditation.

Our practice welcomes students of all levels and age groups. Due to her husband’s job as a diplomat, her family often needed to cope with living far away from family and friends with constant moves from one country to another. As Letty found relief from her yoga practice, she designed her classes to alleviate the anxiety and depression that can often emerge from our life situations and daily activities. Letty’s yoga helps as a practical counterbalance to those stressful life changes such as moving, starting a new job, starting a new family or the loss of a loved one.

Here’s wishing you great health, happiness, joy, peace, and prosperity as you have already joined us on this journey towards wellness, mindfulness, and overall well-being!
